Match Report
Overton claimed a much needed victory in a closely fought contest away to East Woodhay.
Winning the toss Overton skipper, Andy Galvin elected to field in order to take advantage of Overton pace attack using the new ball on a fast track. Despite a few wayward deliveries from paceman Andy Regan (1-49) Galvin kept the openers in check being rewarded with a wicket in his third over. East Woodhay's skipper, Nick Bird (38), was joined at the crease by Ian Gardner (68*) and they grafted a partnership of 55 before change bowler Gary Wilson (3-53) brought this to an end. Andy Wake (3-36) joined the attack and seemed to have rediscovered some zip as he helped restrict the home sides total to 187.
Overton started positively with an opening stand of 54 before Dave Pitt (21) was on his way back to the pavilion. 6 overs later Graham Devereux (41) joined him. A couple more wickets fell quite cheaply however with Andy Galvin (53) at the crease the target grew ever nearer. When he was given out LBW memories of last weeks defeat from a similar position started flooding back and the nerves began to show as three people were unnecessarily run out. When debutant Andy Pett went to the middle with just 2 wickets remaining a few Overton players feared the worse. These fears were unfounded as a superb 17 not out took Overton to the winning total, ending the innings with a six.
