Match Report
Overton lose out in Regional North 1 Thriller
Some glorious weather over the course of the week resulted in a hard wicket and fast outfield, a rare occurrence at the Bridge Street ground. Andy Galvin won the toss and decided he would like the opportunity to use the new ball on this wicket so inserted East Tytherley.
Andy Galvin (3-31) bowled quick dismissing the visiting skipper with the second ball of the innings. Two more quick wickets followed leaving East Tytherley on 31 for 3 after just 7 overs. A 131 run partnership then followed and with the run rate accelerating East Tytherley had 240 in their sights. That was until an inspired bowling change brought 16 year old Nick Tomlin into the attack. With his fifth ball he dismissed Pearce for 85, followed by Drake for a primary. His first Hat Trick was completed when Braund was bowled for 55 with the first ball of his second over. Tomlin completed the innings taking the last wicket, returning figures of 4 for 17, supported by Gary Wilsons 3 for 23.
Overtons innings suffered an early set back when opener Graham Devereux (7) was bowled with the score on 10. Skipper Galvin (11) mistimed one, holing out to mid on. Dave Pitt (26) & Richie Smith (71) put on 50 together before Pitt was caught. Andy Wakes poor start to the season with the bat continued as he only contributed 10. This season most improved Batsman, Gary Matson (31*) joined Smith at the crease and they helped steer Overton to a winnable position until Smith was run out by a direct hit. With only 15 needed from 5 overs East Tytherley increased the pressure on the new batsmen restricting Matson to watching from the non-strikers end. James Maxwell was dismissed for just three and Nick Wood couldn't quite find the thick edge needed to secure victory being run out on the last ball with Overton just 1 run short.
