Swanmore beat Overton by 3 Wickets
Match Report
Overtons demons reappeared as the Division 2 Champions slumped to a 3 wicket defeat on a slow & true artificial
Andy Galvin won the toss (a miracle in itself) and decided to bat first. Opening with Dave Pitt (0) and Steve Blunden (21) Overton got off to the worse possible start when Pitt was bowled with the second ball of the season.
Andy Galvin (28) joined Blunden in the middle and they were able to put on 51 together before first Galvin & then Blunden just one over later were mincing back to the pavillion. Stuart Allen (0) and all rounder James Maxwell (2) hardly troubled the scorer. Overton legend Andy Wake then chose to leave a straight won being bowled for a golden duck! The score board showed 58-6 after just 16 overs.
Then came one of the only highlights of the game, Andrew Regan, Great Great Great Great Nephew of former American President, Ronald, stepped up a gear or five scoring his first ever half century in front of an appreciative crowd. With swash & buckle the likes of which not seen since Blackbeard took on Captain Pugwash at a game of tiddleywinks, Regan carved up the Swanmore bowling ending on 61 from 55 balls. Partnered by Simon Trott (25) & Nick Tomlin (6) he'd managed to give the bowlers something to aim at leaving Overton all out for 164.
On the slow, sloping wicket the Overton bowlers were never able to get on top and sustain any real pressure. Pick of the bowlers were Andy Regan (3-19) and Gary Wilson (1-4) Overton were fortunate not to conceed more runs as they proceded to stick to a leg stump line. When the batsman were able to hit the ball off the square some comical misfields gave easy runs away. Unfortunatley Overtons premature end to their innings meant Swanmore did not have to concern themselves with the run rate merley survival. This they achieved scoring the winning runds with 8 overs still remaing.
