So my first match preview of the year. I know it's early but I wanted to get a feel for the format and amount of work that's involved. I will update it constantly including Overton team news & meeting times as it becomes available.
Last Season
Holybourne finished mid table last year winning 7 losing 8. Looking through their results they lost their first 4 games being bowled out in all four games. All out scores of 60, 81 & 99 may indicate a weakness in their early season batting form. Most Overton players can sympathise with this having experienced many years of early season failure however last season we bucked the trend a little winning 3 of our first 4. They averaged 4.8 batting points (that's just under 150 run average) and 3.8 bowling points (7 or 8 wickets per game). To compare we average 5.8 batting points (Just under 175 runs) and 4.7 bowling points (thats 9.5 wickets a game).
Key Players
One name, that of Martin Kersley, seems to appear in most reviews, both with bat & ball. He opens the batting (2) and normally bowls first change, occasionally their 5th bowler. Captain Tim Parker is another batsman that seems to score frequently.
Other Information
In 2004 they also finished mid table in the same league (won 6 Lost 9) with Mr Kersley finishing 19th in the league batting and Trevor Rosati finishing 13th in the bowling with 28 wickets although he didn't seem to take as many last year.
Don't take this as fact but from what I understand the pitch is actually on top of some roman ruins and that makes it difficult to work on and maybe difficult to bat on as a result.
This is the first game of a double header weekend against Holybourne with the Sunday side playing them the next day.
Directions
From Overton head towards Dummer, passing the cricket school. Continue on this road into Axford. Turn right then immediatley left. Pass through Ellisfield until you reach the A339. Turn right towards Alton. Holybourne lies on the northern edge of Alton. Once in the village follow main road past shop, pub and playground and the ground is on the left hand side.
