Match Report
A Club best 3rd wicket stand of 133* helped Overton end the friendly season on a high.
Despite some pessimistic weather reports earlier in the week Overton arrived in the picturesc village of Broughton bathed in sunshine. Winning his 7th toss of the year Overton Skipper Nick Parnell-Smith elected to bat first. Opening with himself NPS (12) top edged to square leg with the score on 17. Andy Regan was given an oppourtunity to get some minutes at the wicket but his head got the better of his instinct as he played around a slow ball to be bowled on having only scored 2. Remaining opener Bernie Proctor (76*) was now joined by his former opening partner Simon Trott (52*). A grafted partnership was now formed as both batsman remained at the crease to the end of Overtons 35 overs with 168 on the board, both players hitting their first 50's of the year.
With options available Sebastian Smith (1-6) & Gary Wilson (0-7) opened the bowling conceding just 13 runs for one wicket from their combined 10 overs. Nick Tomlin (1-12) again bowled well while everybody knew by the end of the evening how economical Lee Heaver (1-15) was!
Andy Regan (1-10) claimed a wicket on his spinning debut. Pick of the bowlers was Hitesh Patel who returned figures of 3-9 from his 3 overs. Andy Thrift (1-9) boosted his fantasy rating with a caught and bowled while Carl Bowman (1-4) bowled his first overs for the club.
Broughton were dismissed for just 86.
