Overton (24 pts) beat Steep (3 pts) by 10 wickets
Match Report
An inspired team performance saw Overton remain top of Regional North East 2 and move one step closer to promotion after a 10 wicket victory away to Steep
Overton skipper Andy Galvin won only his fourth toss of the year and decided to bowl on a damp but drying wicket. Opening bowlers Andy Wake (3-25) and Gary Wilson (1-11) built pressure from the start with some accurate bowling dismissing the two Steep openers after just 5 overs and not allowing the home side to score at any more than two an over. Looking for another breakthrough Sebastian Smith (1-19) was brought into the attack and he claimed the third wicket in the 20th over. 15 year old Nick Tomlin (2-23) claimed his first league wicket in his first league over of what proved to be a superb spell of bowling.
Overton now focused on getting maximum league points and with plenty of bowling options available a series of changes saw Andy Galvin (1-6) and Richie Smith (2-16) complete the task. The last wicket falling with the last ball of the innings.
With the wicket now more suitable to batting, Overton openers Graham Deveraux (67*) and Dave Pitt (28*)showed great patience getting their eye in before passing the total with 18 overs remaining. This unbeaten opening stand allowed Overton to claim the maximum 24 points.
Andy Galvin was very pleased with this win "Because 2nd placed Froxfield & 3rd placed Flamingo's were playing each other today it was important that we came away with a good result here"
