Match Report
Overton remain top of Regional North East 2 after a hard fought victory away to Bentworth.
Overton batted first and set about with confidence after posting two big scores in previous weeks. Overtons overseas player, Dave Pitt (16) was the first wicket to fall with the score on 44 after only 5 overs. Will Kinnear (38) again used his power to great effect and it took a magnificent catch on the boundary by S Revel to send him back to the pavilion. Skipper Andy Galvin (30) and Andy Wake (28) both batted well on a surface more suited to bowling. Gary Matson (9) and Simon Trott (11) started to look comfortable aiming for batting points before both were removed by sharp pieces of fielding. The innings came to a close with score 153 all out.
With the wicket becoming difficult to bat on Andy Galvin (2-27) attacked the openers with some accurate pace bowling. Several chances went through the 3 slip cordon before he was able to claim his first scalp, R Cook (1) playing on. He followed this by dismissing Bentworths top scorer, A Yorke (21), keeper Simon Trott catching him from a fiery delivery. Gary Wilson (1-19) took a wicket with his first ball before being replaced from the Medstead road end by Andy Wake (5-26). Wake produced his best bowling of the season in a spell where accuracy was the key, forcing the Bentworth middle order to play every ball. This pressure, supported by James Maxwell (2-20), saw Bentworth bowled out for 101.
